Veronica’s Story

Veronica is from Ghana in West Africa and when she arrived at Life Network, she felt overwhelmed. Before coming to the United States, she lost her mother and the pain was still there.

“When I first came to the center, I was seven months pregnant and I didn’t really know much about pregnancy because it was my first baby and I didn’t have my mom to help.”

“The parenting program at Life Network helped me a lot with parenting and what to expect during my pregnancy,” Veronica says.

Veronica says the parenting program helped her become a better person and a better mom. “My coach was so friendly, encouraging, and helped me a lot,” she says with a smile. “She’s one of the best people I’ve met since coming to the United States.”

Veronica enthusiastically participated in the parenting program and was able to get a toddler’s bed, car seat, high chair, and access to the baby boutique.

“This program has been so helpful for me – they really are the best,” Veronica says.

Veronica says she deeply appreciates the dignity and respect she was given. “There’s no discrimination and they treat everyone equally regardless of your background or where you’re coming from.”

“Back home in Ghana, we don’t have opportunities like this,” she says.

Recently, through determination and a lot of hard work, Veronica received both her GED and citizenship.

“It wasn’t easy,” she says. “It was quite a challenge for me because learning in America is different from the way we do it back home.”

Veronica and her beautiful son, are doing well and she is now a Certified Nursing Assistant who is passionate about serving others in need.

“I’ll never take this opportunity for granted. Life Network is the best. And, one day when I become successful, I’m so ready to pour back into this program and help people the way they’ve helped me.”
